Plaid is a Scottish Gaelic word for Blanket! Plaid (blankets) originally told in the USA were Tartan designs hence why Americans call Tartan plaid. Plaid is NOT the pattern! Tartan means 'to crisscross' and is the PATTERN of the fabric. Flannel is a specific type of fabric originating from Wales. There you go! You are welcome.
